Summary: | 碩士 === 國立高雄第一科技大學 === 營建工程所 === 91 === The subject of this thesis intends to examine carefully the application of
Chinese Geomancy (Feng-shui) on site planning (the placement of modern
buildings or the site selections for architecture or cities).
Through the geomantic ideas in Yih-Jing, whose main thoughts like as
Yin-Yang, the Five Elements, the Eight Diagrams, Li-Chi, I would like to
explain the site selections for architecture and cities and the arrangement of
towns and cities. By the process and analysis of interpreting the principles
of geomantic operation and the multiple pictures, diagrams, song, mantras
and poems, this thesis aims to clarify the superstition and the ambiguous
understanding of Geomantic system, to disclose the confusing concepts, to
establish the norm of modern geomancy. Besides , it is to combine the ideas
of modern architecture, furthermore, and to make the ancient concept useful.
However, the dualism of science and superstition borne in geomancy
has made this study encountering many barriers.
Although there are numerous records in Feng shui literature, in addition
to their features, voluminous, mixturous, difficult and chaotic, it’s extremely
difficult to find the papers in the academically level and to understand some
very profound mantras. The mauvais pas is just like the Chinese saying :
“riding a horse in the wildemess and rowing a boat amidst the open sea.”
How to make the mysterious materials comprehensible with the flowing
writing style and with the peaceful and freedom spirit is my difficult task.
Hopefully, this paper will be not only my precious treasure, but also
could be the reference for the posterity.
