However, the complexity imbedded in documents presents great difficulty for most methodologies to deal with. The management of ISO 9001 certification documents is a typical example. A company that passed ISO 9001 certification must create a great deal of documents for its standard procedures, and these documents will grow year by year. The procedures required in these documents always cover one or more departments, and they are full of complex knowledge. Ontology is the latest development in AI, which is about formulating knowledge structure of a domain to achieve the purpose of knowledge sharing. Researchers apply it to build intelligent systems that can understand users’ needs. We applied Ontology to analyze the relationships among ISO 9001 documents, and develop an ontology-based system to manage ISO 9001 documents of a Taiwan chemical company. This system is capable of understanding the semantic of documents, and has an inference mechanism to answer user’s questions. The six design phases of an ontology engineering are presented, which follow the recommendations of Ontology Engineering of Toronto Virtual Enterprise. Li-Yen Shue 許蒞彥 2003 學位論文 ; thesis 134 zh-TW
