The objective of this study is to enable personalized retrieval and recommendation services on digital library. We utilize the well-defined “New Classification Scheme For Chinese Libraries” to support audience to retrieve the books that they really want. Besides, memory-based reasoning was applied to assign the unlabeled user to the cluster of its nearest labeled neighbors based on some predefined measures of users’ characteristics. Association rules discovered from the books borrowed by the readers in the same cluster are used as the basis of book recommendation. A simple clustering algorithm was exploited to speed up the processing time of recommendation.
