Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立花蓮師範學院 === 視覺藝術教育研究所 === 92 === Abstract There were a good number of artists’ works presenting the place’s characteristic through the activities of the revitalization of the neglected historic space of Pine Garden in Hualien in 2002. In addition, they had enriched the meaning of space and created its multifaceted profile by the interactions among the artists and visitors. Based on the spirit of place and sociology of art, this study aims at elaborating upon the artists’ intention to revitalize and recreate the Pine Garden representing the process of the spirit of place and social praxis. Meanwhile, I apply the method of fieldwork and narrative inquiry to work on my research. This study is two-folded as follows: A. Demonstration of the Pine Garden’s spirit a. The art works and their connotation are closely linked with the Pine Garden b. There are six aspects influencing the artists in terms of environment: natural factors, geographical factors, historical meanings, buildings, tranquility and liberty. c. The transformative energy is derived from their concern about and being moved by the place, accompanying their regular involvement in rethinking over the implication of the place and the transformative process of the demonstration of games and rituals. B. The artists’ social praxis a. The artists’ energy of interacting with visitors in the Pine Garden is derived from their love of earth and their need to the place of art. With this, it also helps transform the artists in a delicate way. b. The process of revitalization of the reserved space not only changes the place’s original image, but also turns it into a great communal art education area. In conclusion, the artists’ demonstrating the Pine Garden’s spirit and their social praxis has fulfilled the achievement of the renaissance of the Pine Garden and its complete revitalization. With this, we can better understand the point that the Pine Garden’s spirit and the artists’ social praxis have shared in common: their main concern about place, earth and society. This study shows that with their faith and hardwork, the artists’ sincere contributions「create」 a novel value to the local culture and the environment. keyword:Hualien Pine Garden, the neglected historic spaces, artists, the spirit of place, social praxis
