However, for a novice teacher, class management is one of the most frustrating jobs among the administrative and instructional affairs. Even in colleges which cultivate would-be teachers, such a problem has already attracted certain attention and been dealt with. Although a great number of books on class management can be referred to as he or she is confronted with problems in class management, they might provide him or her with skills and knowledge on class management which are of little avail in practice on the premise that the skills and knowledge are brought by a notable theorist, not a senior teacher. Accordingly, through the employment of the qualitative research which is characterized by its in-depth and full-scale qualities, this study aims at exploring the class management of a senior teacher, Chun-Lian Yei, who had been a class teacher in a junior high school from 1972 to 2001 and was experienced in leading a class. The study takes Ms Yei as a subject and attempts to let her freely and respectedly express her thoughts and experience, explores her know-how and theory on class management as well as the situations where a class teacher works, and thereby systematize and construct knowledge on class management which can be employed by junior school teachers. By achieving the above goals, the study essays to bridge the gap between theory and practice in the hope that the pragmatic knowledge on class management in junior schools can be enriched. The study is composed of six chapters. In the first chapter, the motivation and purposes of this study are stated, the subject and the research design are introduced, and the framework of the study is explained. In the next four chapters, the ideas, the skills and the results of Ms. Yei’s class management are discussed. In the last chapters, the contributions and the implications of Ms. Yei are explored according to the results of the study. Eventually, the suggestions are also put forward as follows: 1.enhancing teacher’s instructional ability with reflective thinking; 2.reinforcing the ability of teacher’s professional judgment; 3.assisting students and discipline teachers in establishing optimal learning situations; 4.trying to balance the administrative and instructional jobs; 5.establishing the effective teacher award system.
