As for the biotechnology industry development in Taiwan, government gives fresh impetus to biotechnology industry, which makes this industry becoming a chief one in next stage. The government shows its determination to develop this new and developing industry by marking biotechnology industry as priority event on biotechnology industry strategy convention in latest 5 years and “The challenge to year 2008 nation development significant plan”.
The management problems, which are brought with this new and developing industry, needs to be resolved one by one. This study focus on high risk on biotechnology industry, long-term development, money investment on research and development, people’s conservative investment attitude…etc characters. The purpose of this study is not only to establish an valid evaluation standard on biotechnology industry in order to low down the risk on investment but also to relieve the qualms about investment and further investment and development on this industry.
This study not only examines the investment evaluation standard on starting enterprises in the past but also generalizes overall evaluation factors based on characters of biotechnology industry. The overall evaluation factors are: management ability in a team, marketing, product technology, financial management and business plan. Meantime, individual evaluation factors, which are patent, the stage of product development, research expense, human resources and public science, verify the evaluation factors biotechnology industry center on. This research is based on questionnaires and proper statistics, i.e., exploration factor analysis and discriminate analysis, which establish appropriate investment standard on biotechnology industry.
Agents who are engaged in biotechnology industry investment complete the questionnaires. To analyze the result of questionnaires by exploration factor analysis, and then extract all explanatory variables. The research outcome shows overall evaluation factors are more distinguishable than individual evaluation factors. Among these, overall marketing, marketing research and financial management are more explanatory and distinguishable than others. We may know not only that biotechnology industry investors in Taiwan consider overall achievements when investing but also the importance of marketing and financial management to investors nowadays. And this can be a reference to raise fund for biotechnology companies in the future.
