Taiwan Fine Arts Exhibition in the period of Japanese rule to propagated “local color”, it contained to reveal achievements in the ruler’s official career. It also emphasized the development of art self-aggrandizement. Taiwanese Toyoga portraying reality that to be consider express provincial characteristics of art. However, “local color” of Taiwanese Toyoga appeared not spontaneous. Japanese artists encouraged Taiwanese artists to focus on discovering their own style and expressing local character. This art concept came from Japanese painting develop experience. To look for characteristics of art begin with subject matter and art forms to intrinsic spirit and cultivation.
The practice “local color” of Taiwanese Toyoga by portray provincial subject. Taiwanese Toyoga works content included embellish Taiwanese animal and plant or person action. Realistic portray to have record significance but express characteristics of art. Therefore “Taiwanese Toyoga reveal “local color” be a word to urge artists, it didn’t signify that Taiwanese Toyoga reveal self- characteristics. The concept “local color” could be the starting point to develop art self- characteristics. Art works express include subject matter and technique factors. With an emphasis on to create art works refers to artists to think over to select decisive factors. To discussion “local color” could consider various ideas. Whatever, aesthetics should take care of the whole presentation. Artist express works provincialism but commemorative painting, due to art express ability.
