Summary: | 碩士 === 國立彰化師範大學 === 地理學系 === 91 === The location of urban parks, to a large extent, determines their potential type of users which in turn imposed differences on the need for the interior setting of the parks. On the other hand, the interior setting and their spatial arrangement affect the satisfaction of park users. Yet, no study has examined the influences of both the location and interior setting on park usage at the same time. This study evaluated the influences of both type of factors on the use of two urban parks in Taichung City, one in the old downtown area and one in the newly developed residential area. We surveyed the number of park users, observed the usage of park facilities, and used questionnaire to examined characteristics and satisfactions of park users. In addition the location and interior setting including areas of various sections within the parks were also surveyed. The result indicates that distance is the major factor affecting park usage but the convenience of transportation could improve urban park accessibility.
Users of Chungshan Park, which is located in the old downtown and has many bus routes, came from a wide range although the proportion from neighborhood is high. Users of the park were dominated by elders and youths. The users tended to have lower education and social-economic status, come to the park during day time without accompany and without specific purpose. On the other hand users of FengLe Park came from a narrower area. They tended to have higher education and social-economic status, come to the park with family during holidays and after work. In terms of the demand on park facilities, users of Chungshan Park have higher demand on plaza and gazebo whereas users of Fengle Park have higher demand on recreational and sport facilities. The results also indicate that sites with natural vegetation and sites with good vision were associated with higher user satisfaction on the beauty of the environment and safety. Users also preferred resting spots with good vision and good accessibility.
In conclusion, location has major impact on user characteristics, the purposes and time of park usage, whereas interior settings and spatial arrangement of park facilities affected the frequency of the usage of the facilities and user satisfaction about the landscape and safety. However, to some degree, interior setting and spatial arrangement also affected user characteristics and the purposes, time of the day and duration of park usage.
