Summary: | 碩士 === 國立交通大學 === 應用藝術所 === 91 === The development and expansion of informative technology is another wave of transformation since the industrial revolution in the 18th century. A result is information overload: the amount of information produced in these three decades is more than that in the earlier five thousand years; the volume of knowledge included in a copy of 《New York Daily News》may beat up that a British in the 17th century was able to learn for his/her whole life. The number of people a person can reach on the Internet is one thousand times of that visited with a car, and one million times of that by walk. Information anxiety has been argued coming along with the information overload.
This project includes a paper and an installation art. The paper is to examine the theoretical discussions regarding the roles of Postmodernism, consumption, and (mass and electronic) media that contribute to information anxiety in the global society. The installation art is seeking to represent information anxiety through creating an interactive signifier, aiming to echo the viewers’ experiences and feelings of information anxiety and to drive the viewer’s imagination of the signified. By turning the viewers into participants, this project is expected to have the viewers producing some reflections on information anxiety.
The installation has been exhibited in the gallery of National Chiao Tung University from May 8th to May 23th, 2003.
