Taiwan has been a member of the World Trade Organization(WTO)since 2002. And education, also under the auspices of the WTO, is part of the General Agreement on Trade in Services(GATS). Based on fair reciprocity, the universities in Taiwan shall face even more formidable impact. Besides, at higher education level, not only the enrollment rates but also the number of higher education institutes expanded. When buyers meet suppliers in higher education market, then comes the tug of war.
This study examines, via literary retrospect and interview four higher educational institutes in Taiwan and compares their strategies in response to the forces of foreign universities and increasing undergraduates.
The objects of this study are as follows:
1.To understand the current situation of the higher education.
2.This study used The Five-Forces Model as an higher education analysis.
3.Finally, comments and related discussion topics from the study are presented.
In order to carry out the study , interview method suggested by the experts will be utilized. First and foremost, related documents and sources on the higher education and competitive strategy will be collected. The major points will then be sorted and organized for further study. Next, those managers in four higher education institutes who specialize in this area will be interviewed; and their methodological recognitions will then be analyzed.
Based on comparative data analysis on interview outlines and related documents and sources, the study found 17 higher education competitive strategies. Through the examination with the “Five Forces Model”, it allowed us to point out the forces and threats in the higher educational institutes in Taiwan and also help us to predict potential development trends accordingly in the global higher education market.
