Peak flow characteristics are discussed in terms of trend ,magnitudes , variabilities , and their governing factors, and those without significant flow regulation by reservoirs are analysed by four frequency analysis method to analyze the frequency equations . Four frequency analysis method include normal distribution , log-normal distribution , log-pearson type III distribution and Gumbel extreme type Ⅰdistribution . The frequency equations can be used to estimate peak flows with different return periods. Peak flow estimates made with equations developed in this study can be compared with those calculated from other methods in order to allow optimum selections of reasonable peak flow values for designing soil and water conservation structures. Equations relating peak flows to return period and drainage areas were developed individually for Northern Taiwan , these equations can be used to estimate peak flows for ungaged watersheds in respective regions.
