We first develop the steady-state analytic solutions of the system. Next, the expected cost function is developed in order to determine the optimal values of the number of unloaders R and extra finishing rate so as to minimize the expected cost function. Under the optimal operating conditions, numerical results are provided in which several system performance measures are evaluated for several cases. Finally, sensitivity analysis is also investigated.
