Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立中興大學 === 森林學系 === 91 === During the period of 1992-1993 and 1996-1997, the industry relocation has increased greatly in Taiwan. The objectives of this study are to analyze the exports/imports trend of Taiwanese forest products and to explore Taiwanese and Chinese competitiveness index and quality change index of main forest products in the U.S. market. As results, the export value of “furniture of wooden, bamboo, ratan, etc”, “goods of wooden, bamboo, ratan, etc” and “veneer and plywood” are mainly comprised of the exports of Taiwanese forest products, their percentages are 55.49%, 31.87% and 7.48% respectively. On the other hand, “logs”, “lumbers” and “veneer and plywood” are mainly comprised of imports of Taiwanese forest products, their percentages are 22.88%, 20.81% and 18.33% respectively. Comparing the Relative Competitive Analysis (RCA) and export share of forest products to the U.S.A. market, we found the trends are declining in Taiwan but increasing in China. The quality changes of main forest products from Taiwan and Mainland China in U.S. market is compared. “Main material and primary manufacture” tended to low quality during the period of 1989~2002 (Taiwanese QCI: -21.04%, Mainland Chinese QCI: -2.08%) because there is no abundance of forest resources in Taiwan and Mainland China so that the quality is restricted by foreign suppliers. “Main furniture of wooden, bamboo, ratan, etc” and “main goods of wooden, bamboo, ratan, etc”, which are secondary manufacture, tended to low quality (QCI are -0.62% and -0.86% respectively) because the great change of market structure in industry relocation stage two occurred in Taiwan. “Main furniture of wooden, bamboo, ratan, etc” and “main goods of wooden, bamboo, ratan, etc” tended to high quality (QCI are 1.79 % and 0.54 % respectively) after industry relocation stage three. Besides the quality changes of “main furniture of wooden, bamboo, ratan, etc” and “main goods of wooden, bamboo, ratan, etc” in American market is minor in Taiwan than in Mainland China. The minor quality change of Taiwan indicates the stable technology of Taiwan. Therefore, “main furniture of wooden, bamboo, ratan, etc” and “main goods of wooden, bamboo, ratan, etc”, which is produced by Taiwan, are high quality tendency after industry relocation stage three although the competitiveness of Taiwan forest products in American market declined because of Mainland China competition.
