This study case is to discuss the cracking examination, sampling test, the enhancement and reparation construction method for reionforced concrete smokestack structure. In this study, we adopt the reparation and enhancement case of the first and second machine smokestack in Hsieh Ho Thermal Power Plant of Taiwan Power Company as the study case. In which, its construction examination and measurement process, the points differ from the reparation case in general, its advantages and defects are discussed.
With the study case of the smokestack reparation of Taiwan Power Company, we carry out the following tests and measurements: (1) the current condition examination of tube-shaped smokestack structure, (2) core boring sampling for the compressive strength test of concrete, neutralization test of hard and solid concrete and the test of chlorine ion content, (3) estimating the cracking process of concrete and the countermeasures for the reparation and reinforcement.
Roughly from each kind of test and measurement results, it is seen that the reinforcing bars of tube-shaped smokestack is only slightly corroded and its impact degree on the safety of the whole construction is not significant. After the reparation and enhancement construction, the safety degree of the whole smokestack strudture is heightened. Only the original check method of this case is not executed according to the standard procedures, such as traditional investigation, diagnosis estimation, reparation and reinforcement design, reparation and reinforcement construction and etc, and subsequently, serious concrete cracking on two circular areas are discovered, where the overall check and measurement, and safety estimation should be executed. And this causes the delay in the time limit for the project.
