In particular, this study intended to examine how the factors, such as party identification, candidate image, attitude toward political issues, social relations, and demographic variables, relate to the patterns of voting behavior. The 35-islandwide election precincts of Kimen County were involved in data collection. The collected aggregate data of the election outcome were analyzed by using descriptive statistics to achieve the identification of the territory of each candidate. The collected aggregate data were also analyzed to determine the correlations between winning rates of different candidates. The statistical methods such as chi-square test of association and ANOVA were used to determine and report the relationships among demographic variables, attitudinal variables, voting behavior orientation, and voting choice. The results of data analysis revealed that (a) candidate orientation was served as a shaping factor in voting behavior in the core territory, and that (b) local factions began to emerge, due to the function of symbolic interest. The data also indicated that (a) there was statistically significant difference in voting choice associated with the variables such as age, level of education and occupation, and that (b) there was statistically significant correlations between the voting behavior orientation and variables such as age, level of education, and that (c) there was a negative correlation existing between age and the degree of concern about the election, and a positive correlation between level of education and the degree of concern about the election, and that (d) the issue orientation was rated as the top factor and the candidate orientation was rated as the second factor among the five factors shaping the voters’ voting choice. The author suggested that the dimension of community culture could be added to the future research regarding the voting behavior, and that both qualitative approach and quantitative approach could be combined to investigate the voting behavior by using the concept of the spatial construction of candidate evaluation. Key words: voting behavior electoral territory voting orientation voting choice traditional relationship orientation 張世熒 2003 學位論文 ; thesis 0 zh-TW
