Several kinds of laser diode were used as a mode locker including Fabry-Perot type, multi-mode type and distribution feedback type laser diode. We first reviewed the theory of active mode-locking. In experiment, pulse train at a repetition rate of 992.73 MHz(148th harmonic of fundamental frequency of ring cavity) was obtained. The pulse width was estimated to be 302.53 ps. The linewidth of spectrum was 0.205 nm. The average output power was 1.2 mW. The side-mode was suppressed by 45dB. In future applications, combining mode-locked laser with a stabilized laser at 1.5µm, a stable optical frequency comb at 1.5µm can be set up for precision frequency measurement.
