With the emergence of wireless networks and increasing demand of wireless networks service on the Internet, wireless networks services are foreseen to become widely deployed in the next decade. The greatest advantage of the wireless LAN can be located in any private location without wired network.
Wireless communication system is an attractive communication in indoor environments. This thesis aims directly at the main standards of wireless LAN IEEE 802.11b to achieve an optimum communication coverage area for an indoor wireless communication system.
In this thesis, testing examples and verifying examples were obtained by practical measurement. A notebook computer is used to read the received signal strength as the predicted index. Meanwhile, the practical characteristics of the radio wave propagated in indoor environment can be observed.
Besides measuring received signal strength, a 11M Wireless LAN card were used to perform experiments on transmitting packets. The identical and neighboring channels of the access point (AP) were setup to measure Packet Count Per Second (PCPS), and the same testing for the Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) of AP. A Microwave Oven was even open to test the Interference to the receiver.
The purpose of this Master’s thesis is to analyze and solve some existing problems of IEEE 802.11b WLAN. The result of this thesis helps IEEE 802.11b WLAN to be deployed rapidly.
