Summary: | 碩士 === 逢甲大學 === 紡織工程所 === 91 === Ethyl 2-cyanoacrylate, the most common used monomer for instant adhesives in the market, is manufactured through the processes of polymerization, cracking reaction and purification. Unfortunately, study the process parameters are very little. In this study, we used 1000 grams of ethyl cyanoacetate to react with paraformaldehyde by condensation reaction to get the oligomer of ethyl 2-cyanoacrylate. Then cracking the oligomer of ethyl 2-cyanoacrylate at temperature above 160 ℃, could obtained the crude monomer of ethyl 2-cyanoacrylate, and purified through low temperature vacuum distillation. Various process parameters are studied for the influence to the final yield and purity of ethyl 2-cyanoacrylate.
Parameters of interests are the ratio of ethyl cyanoacetate to paraformaldehyde and the quantity of basic catalyst used in making poly (ethyl 2-cyanoacrylate). Then, the molecular weight and molecular weight distribution of poly (ethyl 2-cyanoacrylate) were determined by GPC. After thermal cracking and purification process, we obtained ethyl 2-cyanoacrylate in different purity and yields. In addition, different amount of plasticizer was studied, and the results are also discussed. The refined monomer was characterized for its functional groups with FT-IR, and its purity was determined by GC-Mass. Our future goal is to find the optimized conditions in yield and purity for mass production.
