It is an inevitable tend that Taiwanese enterprises go investing in Mainland China. Many firms not only rely on the cheap labor and land, they also see the huge consuming potential of the local market in Mainland China. However, this comes with an important managerial issue of localization. Knowledge management and technological knowledge are key factors of firm’s competences. Firm’s application and expansion of knowledge, along with the understanding and operation of technological knowledge characteristics will enable them to reach a better performance.
This study explores the influence of knowledge creation and technological knowledge characteristics to the localization of management staffs, and takes the case of Taiwanese enterprises in China for example. The empirical results show that, different knowledge creation mechanisms and technological knowledge characteristics partially support the localization of management staffs. Localization can be divided into two levels for first-line and middle management staffs. Different mechanisms will influence different levels of management staffs. This is mainly because of different job characteristics.
With the results found in this study, we suggest that firms should deep understand the influence of management staffs to the operation of knowledge creation and technological knowledge characteristics, then consider further whether to localize or not. With this approach, the strategy of localization can have a better performance result for knowledge creation and technological knowledge characteristics, and increase the firm values.
