This design thesis explores history and culture of Hakka “Liu Dui” area so as to have insight into such fields as historical and cultural background, local characteristics, Hakka race characteristics, customs, life style, and social environment etc., and then tries to find “native” local characteristic elements and architectural vocabulary pertaining to “Liu Dui”.
The architectural plan design focuses on cultural, ecological, leisure, technical aspects. The “Cultural Hall” adopts design concepts of natural lighting and ventilating. The method for exhibit design is mainly based on presentation of 3D pattern situated presentation model. The research methods this design thesis are divided into three phases:
1. Structural phase of design theories: To structure architectural vocabulary of “Liu Dui”
and “Locality” etc. with modern meanings, through exploration of area covered by “Liu Dui” organization, review of related literatures, and research and case study on relative architectural theories.
2. Operation phase of design: (1) To obtain design which is related concepts and ideas
from the structure of design theories and primary exploration and the study on relative theories as stated in Phase 1. (2) To put into transformation procedures of architectural space the conceptual models as formed from the above concepts, architectural elements, and architectural vocabulary. (3) To produce physically architectural space of “Liu Dui” Hakka spirit (architectural design project of “Liu Dui Cultural Hall”); and to response to the affection of above theories on design procedures, and to complete the design based on design review of formally structured theory framework.
3. Production phase of design drawing and models: To produce plain drawing,
three-dimensional drawing, profile drawing, perspective drawing, and models.
