As compared with the traditional air-conditioner, variable frequency control is convenient for the issue of the energy-saving. The traditional technique is only ON/OFF type, which will introduce the large transient starting current. Energy dissipation is considerably large. Rather than the traditional one, the inverter type air-conditioner can provide adjustable speed controller for the compressor. The soft-starting performance can be achieved, which will reduce large transient starting current. With the new circuit topology, high power factor can be achieved. The power line loss can be reduced. In order to meet the energy-saving requirement, a high performance air-conditioner is implemented. The developed prototype will be provided to test the performance. It is convinced that the associated research will be beneficial to the air-conditioner application.
