This thesis proposes a power control method which modifies the IEEE 802.11 MAC protocol to improve the wireless channel efficiency. The power control method named PCMAC allows the sender to reduce the transmission power when the receiver is nearby the sender, so that the interference to other nodes is minimized. The method is based on the ”four-way handshaking”mechanism of the IEEE 802.11 MAC protocol. By conditionally reducing the transmission power strength of the DATA frame, PCMAC can effectively increase the spatial reuse of channels and reduce the energy consumption of the sender. We present our simulation results to show that the PCMAC mechanism can effectively improve the performance of the IEEE 802.11 wireless LANs. Ting-Chao Hou 侯 廷 昭 2003 學位論文 ; thesis 73 en_US
