However, the number of related professionals is frequently insufficient such that the diagnosis and renovation on failed equipment usually cannot be performed immediately. This will cause a long downtime of equipment and result in a significant production loss. Therefore, recently the concept of e-diagnostics is proposed, which intends to use Internet and information technologies to provide remote capabilities of connectivity, manipulation, configuration, performance monitoring, and data collection and analysis to achieve the goal of fast repair and maintenance of equipment. In this thesis, we use the web services technologies to develop an e-diagnostics system framework with considering security so as to provide the automaton of diagnostics information integration and diagnostic processes under secure infrastructure. First, we deeply analyze and investigate the functional and security requirements of the e-diagnostics system. Accordingly, an e-diagnostics system framework with considering security is designed. In the framework, we design a monitoring and security server, MSS, to provide the e-diagnostics system with various security functions, such as unified authentication and authorization services, the verification and encryption/decryption of remote diagnostics messages, the management of system users, and the monitoring of system operational statuses. In addition, the framework also takes the security of the remote diagnostics operations into account to ensure that other systems, such as MES, will not be jeopardized. The developed e-diagnostics system framework can not only support performing remote diagnoses of equipment manually but also automatically provide the clients with diagnostics information through a variety of web services. Finally, we construct an application paradigm based on the e-diagnostics of semiconductor equipment and accomplish the system integration and test. The results show that the functions of the proposed e-diagnostics framework can achieve the designed objectives. This research uses new-generation information software technologies, such as web services, XML, Microsoft .NET, and UML, to develop the e-diagnostics system framework, which particularly emphasizes the system security.
