The architecture for VoD server consisting of many server groups is a distributed architecture. It has high fault-tolerant capacity and efficient work assignment. Three strategies are proposed in this thesis. First, we classify all videos into three types, i.e., hot, normal and cold types. The movies for hot type are resided on each server. Therefore, the client can get the service quickly when it requests a hot movie. The strategy is called video classified strategy. Second is called request service strategy. Its main concern is to find a convenient server for each client. Last is fault tolerance strategy. The status of each server is detected periodically. When a server is faulty, the other servers in the same server group will take over the work of the faulty server. This fault tolerance strategy makes the system more robust.
