碩士 === 國立雲林科技大學 === 工業設計系碩士班 === 90 === Abstract In recent times, with the upgrading of living standard, more and more attentions have been paid to the development and product design for the elderly. The purpose of this study was to investigate design issues regarding motion, perception and cognition as well as the life style of elderly Taiwanese people from the viewpoint of ergonomics and universal design. The elderly had the difficulty on walking climbing up the stairs, without feeling pain from the knee joint. It is very inconvenient in their life. The elderly people can not read the panel letters of electric household appliances because they are too small. In addition, they have difficulties to use the product because many electric household appliances imported are still shown in English or Japanese. The elderly can not understand how to use electric products at the first time, so they are taught how to use a product by their families. Non-elderly people have few difficulties on motion and perception. They also have the difficulty on reading the display of products with foreign language in the study. We used a Factor Analysis and Cluster Analysis to plot a graph. The X-axis was named as “Positive type”; the Y-axis was named as “Exercise type. We plotted the results from the Factor Analysis with Cluster Analysis, and defined three groups — A, B and C. As a consequence, each group had its own characteristics. In consequence users with different age and life style had different problems. These problems would be went into details in the text.
