Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立雲林科技大學 === 工業設計系碩士班 === 90 === Abstract The research, on the one hand, was to investigate the origin of “Taiwan Handicraft Promotion Center” and “China Productivity and Trade Center” which one the institutes initiating Industrial Design in Taiwan from 1950s to 1960s, by literature review, and history dictation interviews. On the other hand, the procedure and result were what the research wanted to understand when the two institutes promoted industrial design training activities. The documents recorded the process and outcome of how they enhanced organization policies, how overseas experts directed the industrial design training activities, and how they established the department of design at that time. Furthermore, we interviewed with the host and participants to define the fact of the origin and relevant details so that we could have an overall picture of this event. Besides, we are about to offer specific evidence and illustration for identifying the pace of Taiwan’s revolution from handicraft into industrial design. Meanwhile, we studied the relation and reflection of Taiwan’s development of Industrial Design affected by designers from US, Japan, and Germany. Having completing the investigation, we found that in Taiwan we already learned concept and method of industrial design when Russel Wright and his “Russel Wright Technology Consultants” were instructing Taiwan handicraft training during 1956s to 1960s. His design training actions were obvious and specific toward disclosing the Industrial Design history in Taiwan and settling profound effect as a paragon for later era in promoting industrial design. Consequently, it tells Russel Wright is the man who pioneered the Industrial Design in Taiwan. In addition, as far as the achievement in Taiwan Industrial Design is concerned, “Taiwan Handicraft Promotion Center” in 1950s and “China Productivity and Trade Center” in 1960s were similar in operation mode of training lectures but burdened with different goals of development and tasks of specific period. The previous one focused on production exports, rural economic recovery, and people’s secondary capability development. The latter one, nevertheless, aimed at developing professionals of the design field and advancing the design education for cultivating brilliant professionals in the long run. By doing this research, we actively collected and compiled the origin and process of prime movements of Industrial Design in Taiwan. We’ve defined the origin of Taiwan Industrial Design and established a more completed and integrated pedigree for Industrial Design history. The result can offer the relevant fields for research and reference for advanced study; meanwhile, the result also can provide the students and researchers for their study reference and guidance for future development’s policies of Industrial Design.
