This thesis investigates initial acquisition performance in DSSS systems. The acquisition system uses a noncoherent PN matched-filter (PN MF) detection. A purely parallel acquisition scheme that had been proposed for minimum the acquisition time and false lock probability is derived. The probability of false lock is the probability that the receiver chooses an incorrect phase. The false lock probability is derived for multipath Rayleigh, Rician, and Nakagami fading channels. The use of antenna diversity is investigated for improving the parallel acquisition performance of a direct sequence spread spectrum signals in multipath Rayleigh, Rician, and Nakagami fading channels.
