However, the capability of current user interface provided is restricted to full text search and directory-based browse only, that loses the efficiency and flexibility on information with intellective knowledge-base search. To solve above problem, XML has be established as a general EDI(Electronic Data Interchange) standard and applied to knowledge management due to more machine-readable for computer instead of using HTML document. XML can be used to separate the structure and representation of document and accessed by user or web application request with XML Schema. Nevertheless, it is not sufficient to represent the semantic information within XML document as well as it is hard for user to realize the further conceptual search on the Semantic Web.
RDF has become a universal and powerful tool that is extended from XML syntax structure and tied with rich metadata for describing the meaning implied in an RDF document. The most different point on RDF is that it can support semantic within a document by constructing various properties behind amount of objects, and for each triple that consisted of object, predicate, and subject can expressed the information that document contained. Take the schema view of XML and RDF, roughly speaking, RDF document keep self-description ability up by building additional predicate syntax such that the parser can annotate it without artificial operation. Hence, RDF Schema does no restriction on document structure but given explicit definition for object and property used. Conversely, while access an XML document, it necessary follows XML Schema and uses tree structure concept to obtain data. In fact, it may be uselessness if losing schema regulation.
The Semantic Web is an extension of the current Web and be the tendency to next generation of development on future internet gradually. As more serious requirements addressed from web user, the semantic language necessary and must provide with more efficiency and facilitation capability to implement the various web service. The DAML language is integrated as an extension to some main fundamentals like XML, RDF, and RDFS. It has great potential for knowledge description and semantic inference, and achieves to support the machine-understand level specifically. Hence there are many relative major approach can be found over web such as Web portal, Multimedia collections, Intelligent agents, and Ubiquitous computing.
Although an DAML document contains rich information with and be the principal representation of knowledge on Semantic Web. There must exist a useful and friendly interface to support this knowledge storage and combine with a convenient inferential environment to response user request ion explicitly. In the thesis, we provide a miniature DAML query interface including the statements inferential environment implemented by logic language, Prolog, and triple storing implemented by triple store processor. We use bibliography to illustrate our query model finally.
