However, this research aims at providing an integrated and practical solution by designing and fabricating a multi-function controller capable to be used in controlling pumping systems which may contain pumps in parallel. The controller provides functions of PID control, fuzzy control, man-machine interface, SCADA, sequential control and energy saving management. The PID and fuzzy controls enable the user to select most suitable control strategy. The man-machine interface and SCADA functions facilitate the system’s friendliness and let the user to manipulate the system beyond the limit of time and distance. The sequential control and energy saving management can balance the pumps’ duty and search the most energy saving combination of pumps’ running frequency. Through the program coding and experiments, the research shows the multi-function controller works as planned. The structure of using IPC and Windows platform with individual I/O modules can form an expansible, low cost but sophisticated control system as the demonstration in the research. The controller provides functions of PID control, fuzzy control, man-machine interface, SCADA, sequential control and energy saving management.
