The countries all over the world tried to develop the policy of multi-source energy in order to find and then develop new energy sources and alternative fuels. The government also enthusiastically set the multi-source energy policy into action. Under this policy, the alternative fuels become worthy to be researched and developed. As to alternative fuels, biodiesel was the most valuable alternative fuel to be developed, because it is a recycle energy resource. When biodiesel operates in diesel engines, it acts as petroleum diesel. Essentially, the engine without modification, and maintains its originate functions. In addition, biodiesel will cut down the air pollution and avoid the greenhouse effect. The project is to compare the performances 、exhaust emission and burning characteristics of the engine operated by biodiesel 、biodiesel blend and the petroleum diesel, Separately under without engine modification. They are all measured from the engine tests under varying loads from the engine, at the speed of 1200 rpm, 1800 rpm, and 2400 rpm. This experiment shows that (1) the cylinder max. pressure of the engine is lower when it operates with biodiesel than with petroleum diesel, (2) the heat release rate is also lowered under low speed and light load, but it become near to the same value when the engine speed up and load increased, (3) the specific fuel consumption is higher 6.6~20.8 ﹪ when the engine operates with biodiesel than by petroleum diesel under varying loads from the engine in three values of speed. The specific fuel consumption of the engine feeding with biodiesel blend is lower than petroleum diesel ;higher than biodiesel。 The characteristic action of the engine keeps no change feeding with biodiesel 、biodiesel blend and the petroleum diesel. The BMEP of engine feeding biodiesel blend is higher than feeding with biogiesel or petroleum diesel 。 In the amount of exhaust emission, the results show that (1) the smoke emission produced by the biodiesel reduce 34.4~54 ﹪than by petroleum diesel, under varying load and speed from the engine, (2) the NOX emission produced by biodiesel is 3.4~12.5 ﹪higher than petroleum diesel under varying loads and speed from the engine, but the difference between the amount of NOX emission produced by both are getting smaller when the engine speed up increasingly.(3)The amount of smoke emission and NOX emission of the engine feeding with biodiesel blend, as the ratio of biodiesel increased, is between petroleum diesel and biodiesel。 Bai-Fu Lin 林百福 2002 學位論文 ; thesis 112 zh-TW
