Summary: | 碩士 === 東海大學 === 化學工程學系 === 90 === This study simulates the dynamics of the multi-component adsorption of activated carbon fiber(ACF) cartridge. The breakthrough curves will be obtained and compared to available experimental data.
A nonlinear partial differential equation set(PDEs) were obtained. Numerical approach using backward difference was taking to resolve the PDEs into ordinary differential equation set(ODEs) which are solved successfully using a commercial dynamic simulation package, Simulink, developed by the Mathworks Inc.
To verify the simulation model, the breakthrough curves for single component adsorption were obtained and compared to experimental data from previous study. Good agreements indicate the success in modeling.
Further calculations were done for two-component adsorption. Breakthrough curves were obtained. Experimental work is underway to verify the model further. To remedy the handicap, experimental breakthrough curves for a two-component adsorption in a packed bed using granular activated carbon as adsorbent were compared with the results from this study. Similar trends in breakthrough curves were observed. This simulator can certainly be applied to simulate the adsorption of three or more component as designed.
