Description
Summary:碩士 === 中國文化大學 === 藝術研究所美術組碩士在職專班 === 90 === Research motive: Of all the painters since ancient times Chang Ta Chien is the painter who has conducted the most thorough, and widest research on Chinese traditional paintings. He is also the painter with a unique style that is full of varieties. Through a study of him, one can deeply understand not only Chang’s personal history of creation but also the Chinese painting history. By examining the past, I hope to develop a new route to explore the differences of basic values and characteristics between Chinese painting and Western painting as well as to search the relationship between innovative ideas and traditional ideas of Chinese painting. Research Methods: The methods adopted in this thesis can be divided into three parts: (1) a thorough and systematic research on Chang’s ideas of creation, form expression and skills application as a basis for a further exploration of modern situations (2) a study on the way how Chang developed his own unique style by means of the combination of Chinese traditions and Western skills (3) reexamining my own ideas of creation in the hope of developing and handing on the status that paintings of flowers and birds have in the history of Chinese painting by means of the painting of lotus. Research results: As to creative works, I hope to develop my own unique style of paintings of flowers and birds through lotus painting. I have conducted researches on Chang’s lotus paintings – the lines, forms, ink wash, colors, composition, contents, organization of space, and strokes – as well as on the development and transformation of lotus painting and apply what I have learned from the research results to my own creation. In the process of creation, I try to borrow Chang’s artistic spirit as the base and experience Chang’s artistic state of mind of “hugeness, radiance, abstruseness,” “essence, fervor, poetic quality,” “ hollowness vs. solidity,” “presence vs. absence,” emptiness vs. divinity,” and “innocence.” In the process, I hope to connect my spiritual state and the scenes of the painting so as to enter the innerness of state of creation and to indulge myself in the world of Chinese ink wash painting. Therefore, base on my life and artistry experience, I would like to reflect my concerns and feelings for the modern world through the creation of various forms of lotus painting – concrete, abstract or even symbolization of visual art.
