Description
Summary:碩士 === 中國文化大學 === 美國研究所 === 90 === This thesis, based on the view of Neorealism, explores the relationship between U.S.A. and NATO in the Post-Cold War Era from 1991 to 2000. In this thesis, there are five chapters. Chapter One, introduction, includes research motives and purposes, research theories and hypotheses, research methods, and research fields and limitations. Chapter Two, NATO''s role changing in the Post-Cold War Era, describes the reasons European security environment changing, the roles and functions NATO adapted, and the future of the NATO in the Post-Cold War Era. Chapter Three, U.S. NATO policies, explores the reasons U.S.A. still involved with NATO, the roles U.S. A. changing in the NATO, and the NATO policies U. S. A. choosing in the Post-Cold War Era. Chapter Four, the interaction between U.S. A. and NATO, analyzes the interior and the exterior factors influencing the relationship between U.S.A. and NATO in the Post-Cold War Era, and the future between U.S.A. and NATO. Chapter Five is the conclusion. In the Post-Cold War Era, NATO''s roles and functions are enlarged, not only its military function transferred, but also its political function advanced. Besides, it is endowed with the functions of providing consultations, preventing conflicts, and managing crises. Owing to each NATO''s member has its different national interests, it gets different attitude to the role of NATO. Therefore, some members, like U.S. A. , France, and Germany, are in a dilemma. For example, U.S.A. emphasizes her leadership in the world, taking NATO to interrupt international affairs, but some NATO''s European members such as France and Germany don''t agree to the idea of the U.S.A. Finally, in the Post-Cold War Era, the development of Russia and European Union are crucial to the relationship between U.S.A. and NATO, especially, Russia is a great potential threat to them. So, both U.S.A. and NATO show goodwill to Russia, building cooperative relationship with her. In the short term, EU influencing the relationship between U.S.A. and NATO is not too much, however, if EU becomes a leading role in maintaining European security, it will influence NATO''s role in the Europe, and will influence the relationship between U.S.A. and NATO.
