Polystyrene/Montmorillonite have been synthesized by bulk polymerization. The excellent conditions synthesis (viscosity, die temperature, reaction time)have been found. The improvement on the properties of experiment results have been found by mechanical tests(flexural strength, tensile strength, impact strength, hardness), thermal tests(DSC,TGA) and dynamic mechanical analysis(DMA) test, The distances between the layers of MMT with treated or not have been investigated by X-Ray, and analyze Polystyrene/Montmorillonite materials to combined circumstances by Scanning Electron Microscope(SEM). From the experiment results, the best range of Prepolymerization temperature for casting is 75ºC and the viscosity is 300~400cps; the excellent die temperature is 65ºC and the reaction time is 48hr. From the mechanical property tests, at room temperature(25℃), the tensile、flexural and hardness have decrease with the increasing of MMT, but at high temperature of tensile tests, the addition to tendency of MMT have increases with the increasing. However, the impact strength is steadfast of MMT. For the thermal tests, the addition of MMT is better in glass transition temperature and degradation temperature. The addition of MMT also present better results in dynamic mechanical analysis due to improvement of rigidity. From the X-Ray tests and SEM assay, one can observe that the composites reaches nano-composites.
