Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺灣科技大學 === 電子工程系 === 90 === The main point will be presented in this thesis is using polymer material to made optical multimode waveguide instead of dielectric material. With the application of material replacement, not only the cost will be cheaper, but also the vision of bringing the fiber service home will be achieved very soon. The power splitter is the main part of this research. There are two kinds of polymer materials will be used, which are PC and PMMA. The PC material will be applied to manufacture the core, which’s refractive index will be 1.559 when the wavelength is 850 nm, in room temperature (20℃); The PMMA material will be applied to manufacture the cladding, which’s refractive index will be 1.485 when the wavelength is 850 nm, in room temperature (20℃). In the characteristics of materials, we can use Cauchy’s equation to estimate the materials’ refractive index varied with different wavelengths, meanwhile, considering the refractive index of materials varied with the temperature, and then we can infer the relationship between wavelengths and refraction indexes under different temperatures. The theory of multimode interference (MMI) is applied to design three types of power splitters, which are 1x2、1x4 and 1x8. The three types of power splitters can be simulated and analyzed by using the optical waveguide software, BPM_CAD.
