Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺灣大學 === 戲劇研究所 === 90 === The thesis is intended to explore Plautus’ stage practice, including staging conventions, theatric lines, and stock characters. The texts used are The Complete Roman Drama (Princeton 1942) and Plautus: the Comedies (Johns Hopkins 1995). Staging conventions consist of an introduction to the nature of the ancient Roman stage. Prologues, interaction with the audience, direct address to the audience, eavesdropping, stage direction are emphasized in the study of theatric lines. Stock characters, which result from the repeated plots, are staged by masks and costume. The decoding of Plautus’ stagecract will help not only the understanding of the ancient Roman theater, but also the staging of Plautus’ comedies nowadays.
