Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺灣大學 === 電機工程學研究所 === 90 === IP networks are the most popular communications platform all over the world today. To support real-time high-quality video and voice services in private IP networks and the Internet, IETF concludes on Integrated Service standard featuring an end-to-end QoS enabled transportation of datagrams. However, the scalability problem of Integrated Service can hardly meet the scale of Internet these days. We propose in this thesis a selective flow aggregation approach to help reducing the complexity of QoS processing in large backbone routers by aggregating flows with similar or identical characteristics into a single bundled flow, and thus decreasing the number of flows through. Our study starts with the analysis of traffic characteristics of flows in a multi-node service environment, and then we show that the proposed approach is effective in maintaining the QoS and preserving network resources under a widely adopted hierarchical network architecture. In addition, we also present the numerical results to comprehensively illustrate the benefits of our approach.
