In this thesis, we are aimed at the local oscillator system development for the prototype receivers of the AMiBA radio astronomy telescope. There are two main chapters in this thesis. One is Chapter 3 on the implementation of 21GHz signal source and 42GHz multiplier. Another is Chapter 4 on their integration and test.
In this local oscillator system, the 21GHz stable signal is derived from a 10.5GHz DRO and then divided by a power divider. These two 21GHz signals are sent to two frequency multipliers. In one multiplier, the 21GHz signal is multiplied and amplified to 42GHz signal. In another multiplier, the 21GHz signal is phase modulated by 45 degree phase difference and then multiplied to 42GHz. In both multiplier, a 42GHz power divider is used to provide two stable local oscillator signals for the two sub-harmonic mixers for receiving 85~105GHz polarized RF signals in each AMiBA cryogenic receiver.
The developed local oscillator systems have been finished the system integration and test with AMiBA prototype receivers. The radio receivers are planned to be the installed on Hawaii this August.
