T. T. 7) were grown by using pot culture in a phytotron of the National Taiwan University in Taipei. The cultivation pots were filled with river sand which was thoroughly washed with HCl soloution and rinsed thoroughly with water. Tobacco plant seedlings were transplanted and irrigated with differentiated nutrition solutions of two nitrogen concentration levels: High N (6.0 mM) and Low N (3.0 mM). Tobacco plants were harvested several times, i.e. at 21, 31, 38, 56, and 84 days after transplanting. During the tobacco growing period, data of morphogenesis, i.e. the dates of leaf emergence were registered. The size of leaves was measured for growth analysis. The physiological chemical features of leaves were determined: the concentration of chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, carotenoids, nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium, magnesium, iron, manganese, and zinc, chl./caro., N/Ca, P/Ca were calculated. The results were used as evidence of aging and translocation and redistribution of essential elements in the course of tobacco plant growth and also to observe the N nutrition effect there upon. The development: leaf size, weight on each stem of a single tobacco plant and root weight were measured. The results showed that the higher the N supply, the higher the growth: dry matter increase of roots, stem and leaves, the growth rate in terms of leaf expansion are all higher. The younger leaves contain higher pigments concentration. The chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, and carotenoids concentration decreased as a consequence of leaf aging. Nitrogen and phosphorous concentration were higher in younger leaves and decreased owing to aging. Potassium, calcium, magnesium, manganese, and iron accumulated in older leaves. It is an evidence that these elements are of low mobility and hence hardly translocated from the older leaves to the younger leaves. All the results showed that easily movable elements such as N, P, can be translocated to the growing leaves. In high nitrogen treated tobacco plant, the tempo of all physiological reactions, such as growth and senescence, are more vigorous, intense and quick. Lin, Hong-Chi 林鴻淇 2002 學位論文 ; thesis 117 zh-TW
