With the improved wireless technology, the content of wireless Internet also evolves. WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) is a significant component in the wireless Internet which grows very rapidly in recent years. As WAP Forum released the WAP 2.0 specification in 2001 August, the wireless Internet becomes closer to the Internet. At the same time, SMS (Short Messaging Service) will evolve to MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service). Addition to plain text, MMS adds pictures and sounds in content and slide show in functionality that enables cell phones to exchange richer content with unlimited content format and size.
The goal of this thesis is to design and implement WAP 2.0 and MMS browser on embedded Linux. We hope to create a full functional client side implementation supporting varied content format (WML, XHTML and MMS) and adapting different network topologies (WAP1.x, WAP2.0 and MMS).
To achieve the goal of compliant to WAP 2.0, we integrate MMS agent and Wapscape with Konqueror/Embedded that is the well-know browser in the embedded device. We port the core components of Wapscape (WML, WMLScript and WSP/WTP) to Konqueror and add MMS browsing, terminating and originating application functions.
