High-orientation monocrystal nanowires were synthesized by vapor transport process. Clean (110) sapphire substrate was coated with a ~30 Å thick layer of Au. An equal amount of ZnO powder and graphite powder were mixed and transferred to an alumina boat. The alumina boat and the substrate were then put in a tube furnace. High-orientation ZnO nanowires were then obtained by optimizing the growth conditions. We used FEG-SEM and XRD to observe their morphology and structure. Finally, we measure room-temperature photoluminescence spectra of the nanowires and make a comparison with ZnO thin film. This can tell us what happen in nano-scale materials.
