Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺灣大學 === 土木工程學研究所 === 90 === It’s a controversial problem to judge the safety of most bridges, buildings, etc., especially after earthquakes. Newest developments of optical fiber sensors have the potential to solve this problem.
This thesis introduces various type of optical fiber sensors used popularly. According to the experiments we did for the optical time domain reflect (OTDR) sensing system, it’s not a good candidate for optical strain gauge. Nevertheless, the optical fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors have excellent performance in measuring temperature and strain simultaneously.
This article describes the fabrication of FBG sensors and also the theorems. We test the physical properties of FBG sensors, and get the ultimate stress and Young’s modulus. To overcome the fragility, we used different methods to package those sensors and the characteristic changes were discussed. After a series of indoor and field tests, we realized the FBG sensors are perfect metal-sensing strain gauges and outstanding thermometers. By suitable management of FBG sensors, we can mostly detect those main damages of any structure.
