The main purposes of this study were to investigate the role perceptions, role stress and stress reactions of the personnel officers at the national university to the drastic changes in the environment. At the same time, investigated the role expectations from faculty and staff, too. The main goals are as follows: (a)Realize the current situation of the role perceptions, role stress and stress reactions of the personnel officers at national university;(b)Realize the current situation of the role expectations of the faculty and staff at national university;(c)To compare the difference about personnel officer’s role perceptions, role stress and stress reactions;(d)To synthesize the results and findings in this study and provide some suggestions to the relevant personnel authorities departments and reducing personnel’s stress. The major instrument used for data collection in this research included an interview for the personnel officers at the national university and a questionnaire survey for 308 staff members about their perceptions about the role to play in the work. An interview for the faculty and staff, and a questionnaire survey for 768 faculties and staff about their expectations to personnel officers. The data were statistically analyzed by the mean, standard deviation, t-test, Cronbach α, factor analysis, one-way ANOVA, Pearson’s product-moment correlation etc. The findings of this research were: 1. The role perceptions of the national university personnel officers mainly to administer their work based on“ the personnel law ”. Those factors, such as gender, age, rank and scope would influence the role perceptions. 2. The perceived stress of the personnel officers was moderately high. Females’ workers and those with less education and lower rank perceived more stress in their work. 3. For the negatives reaction to the overloaded stress, most personnel officers would choose to ask for a transfer. Female officers, younger workers, and those with lower educational background, and rank would more likely to ask for a transfer in the face of stress. 4. The faculty and staff of the university have higher expectations about the personnel officers. 5. The personnel officers have high perceptions toward the role they play in the job. Both the faculty and the members of the university also have high expectations to the personnel officers. As for the role played by the personnel officers help the faculty and staff to cope with the changes, the expectation of the faculty and staff is highest than that of the personnel officers themselves. As for the role-played to assist personnel’s management and to enforce the personnel law, the expectations of the personnel officers are higher than the staff. Several suggestions were made for the national university personnel officers improve their work role awareness and services.
