It is valuable after the collision of various cultures which caused the swing of the pendulum between different cultural identifications. Taiwan Hsiang-T''''u (local) stream of thoughts in the 70s is a fountainhead. This stream of thoughts has its profound influence on Taiwan Hsiang-T''''u painting style in the 70s. Despite their arguments such as “Return to our native culture” and “Resist to occidentalize overall”, Taiwan local artists in the 70s were still influenced by western fine arts. . The current research will explore the relation between western fine arts and this local painting style in the 70s, fostered under the special cultural backgrounds. The factors affecting this painting style included at least the following three aspects: (1) artistic values of national consciousness and realistic consciousness, (2) artists’ born emotions of homeland, and (3) artistic pattern of expressing nostalgic emotions or country scenery. Besides, another important factor was that mass communications imported western arts and directed Taiwan art trend. Western arts that influenced Taiwan Hsiang-T''''u painting style in the 70s included: Realism, Super Realism, and Andrew Wyeth''''s painting style. Taiwanese artists not only adopted many ideas and artistry from these painting styles, but also combined Taiwan artistic conviction and social condition, which created a compromised position in content and form as a result.
