Summary: | 碩士 === 國立屏東師範學院 === 數理教育研究所 === 90 === The purpose of this study is to explore and analyze the misconceptions of the atmospheric pressure and their origins of elementary school sixth grade students, and to analyze the understanding situation of conceptions about atmospheric pressure between urban and rural students. Furthermore, some propositions for textbooks, teaching and further study are available.
A open paper-pencil test, interview and two-tiers test were adopted to explore and analyze students’ misconceptions. Each sample size is 140 students being tested for open paper-pencil test, 9 students for interview and 427 students, which included 219 urban students and 208 rural students, for two-tiers test.
We summarize some key results in this study:
1.There are much more misconceptions of elementary school students among these key conceptions about “ Air is fluid and tends to flow up when it was heated ”, “ The atmospheric pressure is different between the top and bottom of a mountain , because the lengths of atmospheric pillars are different.” ,“ the dense atmosphere is high pressure;the sparse atmosphere is low pressure.” and “ the atmosphere will expand and lose weight in high temperature, we call low pressure , otherwise, the atmosphere will concentrate and put on weight when temperature dropped, we call high pressure.”
2.The overall performance of paper-pencil tests for rural students is better than that for urban students, but the overall performance of interview for urban students is better than that for rural students.
3.The origins of the misconceptions include:
(1)Influencing under the limilted one’s daily experience and sense.
(2)The observation without the objectivity.
(3)Inferring unsuitably according to teachers or textbooks knowledge.
(4)Constructing unsuitably from the society.
(5)Thinking carelessly and easily about the problem.
(6)Hasty generalizations(errors caused by jumping to conclusions about an entire group based on a single experience).
(7)Sweeping generalizations(assertions that cannot possibly apply to the entire population).
