pupils.The research includes are the changing in color of skinned apple and the rusting of iron. We have applied literature review theoretical studies and school curricula analysis in science conception research. The method adopted is giving a paper-and-pencil test, a clinical interview and two-tier type diagnostic assessment were applied in this study. For the investigation into the misconceptions and conception mode of substance oxidation of elementary school pupils. A paper-and-pencil test was administered to 500 pupils at fourth and sixth graders, respectively. Twenty students were chosen subsequently for clinical interview. Next, a two-tier type diagnostic assessment was administered to 415 pupils at fourth and sixth graders, respectively. The research results shows that they are many pupils'' misconceptions on the substance oxidation phenomena, such as the apple contain iron, which is the cause of the change in color; believe that overwrap sealing the skinned apples can prevent the apples from changing color; the formation of rust is the result of by iron itself ; believe that the increase in weight after the water on the iron , water have weight ; believe that the decrease in weight after the rusting of iron is due to the corrosion with rust; the change in color of skinned apple is due to coming into contact with air; believe that the cause of iron to rust is iron coming into contact with water; the formation of rust is the result of water corroding the iron.
