It has been shown that satisfaction of group members within their group is a key factor on their group learning processes and outcomes. Students can easily and quickly form their own favorite learning groups in traditional class environment through face-to-face contact. However, it’s difficult to do such interaction on web, because students live far away from one another and being lack of traditional social interactions. Instructors are always in a dilemma as to group students in short time or with high satisfaction on web-based courses. Therefore, this study focuses on solving these problems of grouping on web-based learning, and devoting to several related important topics. Find satisfaction rules from hundreds of groups by data mining technique. Design innovative grouping methods according as rules we found. Validate and evaluate efficacies of grouping methods. Those above-mentioned are three major contributions of this study. Three experiments with approximate 750 students participated were conducted to investigate the validity and efficiency of those methods. The results show that, compared with self-grouping, the methods we developed in this study will not only result in the same level of satisfaction but also have higher benefit-cost rate.
