Therefore, the information aptitude inventory is developed in this research to help students to realize and find out if they have sufficient potential for studying information technology and if they are suitable to engage in computer related vocations. The results of the information aptitude inventory can be reference to their career plans.
The aim of the research is to investigate reliability, validity and application of information aptitude inventory for senior high school students. First, the researcher reviews foreign and domestic studies about reliability and validity of the relevant aptitude inventory and other information aptitude inventory in order to find the basis of theories and the ground of research methods. In the process of item standardization, the researcher revises the stems and options by item analysis to promote the quality of the test, and then tests and verifies the reliability and validity of the information aptitude inventory.
The tryout samples in this study are 30 classes accounting to 1,217 senior high school students. After data analysis, the research findings and conclusions are as follows: Generally, the information aptitude inventory has appropriate difficulty and good discrimination. It has acceptable Kuder-Richardson and split-half reliability. It also has acceptable criterion-related validity in Chinese, mathematics, and computer academic achievements and intelligence. It has good construct validity, too. There is a significant difference in information aptitude among background variables including genders, levels and regions. There is a significant difference in information aptitude among different information technology related departments in the university.
The future study aims to construct the norm and write the manual of the information aptitude inventory. The researcher provides some constructive suggestions and recommendations for future research to make the information aptitude inventory more perfect.
