In this study, 16 clients were selected from a 2000-bed medical center in Taipei that received the nerve regeneration surgery. All participants were completed the Quality of Life and Self-Reported Functional Independence Measurement Questionnaires for assessed the quality of life and functional independence before and after the regeneration surgery. The results of this study stated that the quality of life of spinal cord injury clients was influenced by educational level, age, religion, age of onset, time from onset to surgery, and recovery status. The functional independence of married participants were better than unmarried ones; lumbar spinal cord injury participants were better than thoracic ones, and incomplete spinal cord injury participants were better than complete ones. The improvement of quality of life and functional independence to clients with spinal cord injury after nerve regeneration surgery might be related to the time after the surgery. Spinal cord injury clients after nerve regeneration surgery over six months performed better quality of life and functional independence than before. The quality of life and functional independence would be improved with time longer after the surgery. In addition, the results showed that there was a high positive correlation during four domains in quality of life including physical health, psychological health, environment, and social relationship. There was significant correlation between functional independence and social relationship in quality of life. That would be applied that social relationship in quality of life might be improved if the functional independence was improved. There was no significant correlation between functional independence and other domains in quality of life. Lee Li- Chuan 李麗傳 2002 學位論文 ; thesis 107 zh-TW
