Analysis of theories, counseling case studies and action research form the major part of this research. The purposes of the research are as follow: 1)Clarify the definition of music therapy and propose the idea of aesthetic-education-oriented music therapy. 2) Establish theoretical basis for aesthetic-education-oriented music therapy. 3) Retrace the historical origin of the idea of music therapy. 4) Address the possibility of the integration between music therapy and other psychological treatments. 5) Make use of action research to establish effective methods and procedures in application of music therapy to academic instruction and group counseling. 6) Probe into the results of case studies in music therapy, utilizing action research. 7) Provide specific suggestions for teachers and counselor in using music therapy. The results of this research are divided into two. For the theoretical analysis: the theoretical basis is established from three academic fields closely related to music therapy, which are musicology, psychiatry and pedagogy. First, in order to discover ideas of music therapy in essential musical theories, those theories are reviewed by using the ideologies of Eastern and Western philosophy or music aesthetics. Second, the personality theory that derives from psychoanalysis, humanistic psychology and Aesthetic education, is used to build the common goals for music therapy. The common goals are the health, the maturity, the completeness and the balanced development of one’s personality. Thirdly, from various theories of contemporary psychotherapy, concepts, techniques and suitable subjects related to the application of music therapy are being analyzed, induced and combined. The goal of the theoretical analysis of music essence, personality integration and psychotherapy is to establish the concept of aesthetic-education-oriented music therapy, which can be used in academic instruction and individual or group counseling in junior high schools. As for action research, first, by applying aesthetic-education-oriented music therapy in counseling, the author has a successful case. After seven sessions of counseling, there is apparent improvement in the client’s behavior. Next, the author studies the five musical masterpieces used in this research in depth and analyze the objectives of the music and decide suitable time to use them. Humanistic disposition and background knowledge that students should possess before listening to the music are also included in this part. For group counseling, the author proposes the activity of“students as class-director” to apply music therapy in teaching. Following the implementation of the activity, the author obtains feedbacks from students to evaluate the effects of the teaching activity. In the conclusion, with the result of the theoretical analysis and action research in this research, the author further proposes some suggestions concerning aesthetic-education-oriented music therapy for teachers, school counselors, administrative personnel, parents and follow-up researchers. kuang-Chou Tsui 崔光宙 2002 學位論文 ; thesis 201 zh-TW
